AVRAI project

Assessing the Vulnerability of Refugees and Asylum seekers in Italy
The project aims to develop a tailored Vulnerability Assessment Framework (VAF) and a new measurement tool (VAFIT) adapted to high-income countries

The AVRAI project

The AVRAI project addresses the vulnerabilities of asylum seekers and refugees (AS&Rs) in Italy, a country frequently perceived as a transit rather than a destination.
The AVRAI project addresses the vulnerabilities of asylum seekers and refugees (AS&Rs) in Italy, a country frequently perceived as a transit rather than a destination. Recognizing the combined risks faced by AS&Rs, the project aims to develop a tailored Vulnerability Assessment Framework (VAF) and a new measurement tool (VAFIT) adapted to high-income countries. Through the first national survey on AS&Rs in Italy (ItRAS), qualitative interviews, and analysis of health records, AVRAI expands data availability and explores specific vulnerabilities, such as ageing and health conditions
By improving understanding of AS&Rs' living conditions, health access, and labor market integration—also in comparative perspective with Germany and Austria—the project generates research and policy recommendations to support AS&Rs’ inclusion and promote a more socially just Europe.
